After the acquisition by Rarebreed Dining last summer, as well as a full refurbishment, the Shurlock Inn is now becoming somewhat of a hub, not only for local residents, but also for anyone looking for exquisite food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We caught up with Jordan Hallows, co-founder of Rarebreed Dining, to see what changes have been made and how these are improving business.

The first amendment was to introduce more efficient accounting and reservation systems behind the scenes. The menu was reduced in size and styled to highlight the British atmosphere that has become so important in Rarebreed’s culture. Furthermore, higher quality British suppliers were engaged to provide fresh food, such as Highland Wagyu, a Perthshire based farm “on a mission to produce the best beef in the world”. New suppliers were also contacted to provide wines, spirits and beers.

The site continued to run in it’s then current form until the appropriate planning permission was obtained for a new kitchen layout, an extension and a new lavatory block. Shutting down in May 2017 to complete the building work, the site was also redecorated to give the Shurlock a new stylish, cosmopolitan feel whilst sticking to it’s quintessential country pub roots.

Reopening in June 2017, with a Rarebreed menu, the Shurlock Inn immediately saw a 50% increase in sales and wonderful feedback from locals and further afield. In late August, the huge kitchen pass was opened up and the new robata grill and meat fridge completed the Rarebreed Dining journey. Now a fully operational Rarebreed Dining site, The Shurlock is serving it’s loyal customers what they believe to be the best British meat available, cooked over charcoal and wood chippings and basted in the Rarebreed secret blend of loveliness, alongside an extensive list of the finest British wines, a range of spirits, local beers as well as a selection of classic and modern cocktails.

With a view for the future, Rarebreed aim to make the site more family friendly through the provision of an outside kitchen and bar alongside a new, safe children’s play area which we will be opening next summer. However, Jordan, Jonnie and the rest of the Rarebreed team believe that the real journey has just begun; ahead is the daily task of producing high quality food, drinks and service using the best of British produce in order to continue to build their discerning customer base.
